About The Founder

Marie-Hélène Beauboeuf was born and raised in Haiti. While growing up in Haiti she witnessed a mother give birth to her baby on the street, and saw her cut the umbilical cord with a rock. Troubled by this incident and by the health conditions of impoverished Haitian women in general, she always had the burning desire to improve their health conditions and to give them the dignity to which they are entitled.

Marie-Hélène has lived in the Atlantic provinces of Canada for 30 years. She has a Master's degree in International Development Studies from Saint Mary's University, a Bachelor's degree in Education from the Université de Moncton, and a certificate in Human Resource Management from Saint Mary's University. Her idea to start a maternal health project for Haiti germinated from her thesis research on “Community Participation As A Response To The Crisis Of Maternal Mortality In Haiti,” a requirement for her recent masters of arts degree in International Development Studies at Saint Mary’s University in Halifax. The findings from this research prompted her to develop a mobile lab/clinic project to deliver prenatal and postnatal care services to the doorsteps of impoverished pregnant women living in rural areas.
