Project Location:
The organization will implement its first pilot project in the Commune of Léôgane, situated 30 km west of the capital Port-au-Prince, with a population of 179,718. The region is an extensive rural area, which includes high mountains and a broad alluvial plain devoted largely to sugar cane production.

The town of Léôgane has a main hospital, Hôpital Sainte Croix (Holy Cross Hospital) where patients will be referred to for secondary health care. Health conditions and maternal mortality in Léôgane reflects the national statistics as stated in the “Country Profile.”

Features and Services of the Mobile Lab/Clinic:
Salutary Angels hopes to purchase a mobile lab/clinic for health care delivery in Léôgane. The mobile lab/clinic will be the first and only outstanding health delivery system in the country. The mobile clinic will be operated by qualified doctors and nurses from Health Centers of Léôgane. The mobile clinic will be a rough-terrain, four-wheel drive custom-built vehicle equipped with a laboratory, examination quarter, washroom and storage area for equipment and medical supplies. It will contain portable, reliable and easy-to-use lab instruments and reagents for rapid patient testing and diagnostics. The clinic will offer the following services:
- Free prenatal and postnatal care services delivered to the doorsteps of pregnant women.
- Free blood and urine testing for detection of HIV/AIDS, malaria, diabetes, albumin, anaemia and other health ailments.
- Efficient referral system for pregnant women diagnosed with health ailments.
- Distribution of iron tablets.
- Distribution of birthing kits to traditional birth attendants (TBAs) for safe and sanitary delivery.
- Delivery of educational information to mothers and TBAs about the importance of seeking prenatal care, the importance of safe delivery, safe sex, and proper nutrition.
